As I mentioned in previous post, that I will go over the 4 out of 7 beliefs that Ann Sieg goes over in her famous book the 7 Great Lies of Internet Marketing, In this post, I’ll go over #1 – Everyone is your prospect.
Everyone is your prospect…therefore whenever and where ever you can, pitch it (i.e. your product and opportunity). Really? This totally explains the 3 foot rule prospecting method. This is based on the merit that everyone that we encounter in our everyday life must want what we want also (i.e. financial freedom through their own business or a network marketing business for that matter) – they just don’t know how to get there! So, it is our duty to let them know about our opportunity!
Let me ask you: Isn’t it quite presumptuous to assume that everyone wants what we want?
-
Does everyone really want to be an independent business owner?
-
Is everyone really willing to give up that sense of security of regular paychecks and trade it with the sense of non-certainty of irregular income by being an independent business owner, especially a new business owner?
-
Is everyone really willing to give up their free time to build their business?
-
Is everyone really willing to help other people to build their business?
-
Is everyone really willing to grow out of their comfort zone and experience and learn new skills?
-
Does everyone really want to make a lot of money? Seriously, some people (I’ve encountered these people..so I’m not making this up!) think that money is the root of all evil! It will be tough to convince these people that NO money is actually the root of all evil!
As you can see, these are the questions that can only be answered by the folks that we’ve been approaching using the 3 foot rule method. In my opinion, to change people’s minds about these things is like pulling teeth – not just any teeth, but the wisdom teeth…teeth that are already rooted so deeply that it will take a bulldozer to pull them out!
Let me ask you this – Would you rather approach folks or BE APPROACHED by folks that you KNOW would answer YES to all the above questions? Or, would you rather approach EVERYONE until you find one person that would answer YES to all the above questions? Approaching everyone randomly is like participating in the “Deal or No Deal” game where you, as the participant of the game, have to keep choosing each different suit case until you get booted out because the bank wins or until you ultimately get to pick THAT one suitcase that has the $1,000,000 in it! It is completely a hit or miss situation.
One impact of the everyone is your prospect belief is BRANDING.
Have you ever gone to a place and when you see someone you know (a friend or relative), you would pretend that you don’t see that person because you know he/she is going to give you the MLM pitch? How would you feel if you’re that person that your friend or relative, is trying to avoid?
I know personally a good friend of mine that got branded as the “MLM guy” that everyone most of the time tries to stay away from, just because they’re worried that my friend will start giving a pitch on his opportunity to them. And the thing is, he does pitch his opportunity whenever and wherever he goes! Bless his heart….I TOTALLY understand why he’s doing what he’s doing. He’s a nice guy and he’s totally not the type of person who would scam anybody out! I can imagine how awful that must feel that when you’re talking to people about your business, with a good intention (i.e. too provide for you and your family AND to help other people do the same too along the way) and all you get in return is these people making fun of you because of your relentless recruiting efforts.
Moreover, what kind of impression about your business would you give to your prospect if you approach just about everyone you run into everyday? Professionalism or desperation? Put yourself in your prospect’s shoe – Would you join a business who markets its products/services and opportunities by approaching total strangers everyday?
As a fresh network marketer, having been taught the 3 foot rule method, I have approached anyone that I came across at work, at the public library nearby my home and at the grocery stores relentlessly. No guts, no glory – even if it means that I’m about to be branded as the MLM gal! Thanks goodness, I haven’t gotten up to that part where I’m being branded as the MLM gal! Thanks to the 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing ebook and the Renegade Network Marketer training by Ann Sieg!
